There was once a wealthy king with many servants working for him. He was good to everyone and treated his followers with respect. One day, one of his servants had a problem and needed so much money. He decided to ask for assistance from the King who was the only one who could help him.
The king being so generous, gave the
servant all the money he requested and even gave him a long time to settle the
debt. A long time passed and the servant resolved all his issues but refused to
pay his debt. One day, the king asked to be given his statement of account, so
he could bring his account up to date.
He remembered the servant who borrowed
so much money and did not pay. The servant was brought to the king who ordered
for the servant to be locked up until he paid all his debt. The servant fell on
his knees, begged for forgiveness, and asked for his master to be patient with
him. The king pitied him and forgave him of all his debt.
The servant left happily, feeling so
much relief that his debt was totally cleared. On his way back, he visited the
house of one of his fellow servants who owed him just a little money. He
grabbed the servant by the throat and demanded instant payment. The fellow servant
pleaded for mercy and begged him for more time. But this servant was unforgiving
and sent the fellow servant to prison until when he could pay back the money.
The king got to hear about this and was very disappointed in this servant. After forgiving him of the great debt he owed, he could not forgive his fellow servant. In anger, the king sent the man to prison to be tortured until he had paid his entire debt. After saying this parable, Jesus said, “That’s what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters from your heart.” Emphasis on “from your heart”.
This is a story of the parable Jesus told about the unforgiving servant. In the family of God, we are expected to forgive one another just as God forgives us and gives us new mercies every day. Sometimes, it could look impossible to forgive someone because of how much they hurt us. But even if we can’t find any reason to forgive, we can reflect on how many times God keeps forgiving us and never stops being faithful.

May God give us the grace to forgive one another. Amen
