Total trust

Read: 1 Corinthians 2:5

Hello Friend!

Have you ever been disappointed by someone before? It could have been a friend, colleague, spouse or family member you trusted to help you with something, and at the end of the day, you got heartbroken because they could not meet up.

 

Oge’s uncle promised her that if she graduated with a second-class upper, he would ensure she got a job at the oil and gas company he worked for. It was a big company with a mouth-watering remuneration, even for entry-level graduates. Well, Oge graduated with a First Class and was so confident that would secure the role. It was a very competitive role and the company accepted only one fresh graduate yearly. Her uncle being one of the board of directors and with her excellent result, she was so sure she would get the job. 

 

Oge even went ahead to tell her friends that she already got a job in an Oil and Gas company. She got an opportunity to interview at another big firm but turned it down because they wouldn’t pay her as much as they would in the company where her uncle worked. One afternoon when she just got back from shopping for nice work outfits, she got a call from her uncle and jumped in excitement.

 

“This is it, I can’t wait to hear the good news!” she giggled, as he picked up the call.”

 

“How are you Oge?”

 

“I’m fine uncle, I’ve been expecting your call. When am I finally resuming?

 

“I am sorry Oge…”

 

“No, it’s fine uncle, I understand you have been busy, I was just so excited.”

 

“I mean I’m sorry Oge, the role is no longer available. It happened that the Chairman’s son just graduated too, and was asked to take up the position.”

 

“Tell me you are joking uncle…”

 

It was no joke, she did not get the job and you can only imagine how disappointed she must have felt. We humans are flawed and the truth is no matter how much you trust someone, there is still a chance that they can fail. Sometimes, it’s not because they hate you or want to hurt you intentionally; circumstances beyond their control can happen, and things won’t turn out as expected.

 

God indeed uses men to help us, but one thing we should not do is put our trust totally in the help of man. Psalm 118:8-9 says, “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.” Proverbs 3:5-6 also says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

 

As children of God, we should never think we can run this race alone, because we are smart, intelligent, strong or capable. It’s never by our power or might but by the special grace of God. Finally, proverbs 3:6 says, “Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

 

Even as we go into the new week, let us have it at the back of our minds that, “those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever” (Psalms 125:1).

Giving Thanks in Everything
