A friend like Jesus

Hello Friend!
I trust you are doing well. Welcome back to Narrow and Beautiful, it's always good to have you here. We've come a long way in March, and may the goodness and mercies of God continually abide with us.

Today we are looking at an inspiring message about friendship. Have you ever felt alone, betrayed, or abandoned by those you once called friends? Have you ever wondered if there is someone who will stand by you no matter what? The good news is that there is a friend who never fails—His name is Jesus.

"There’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus,
No, not one! No, not one!
Jesus knows all about our struggles,
He will guide till the day is done."

As the last note of the piano echoed through the church, Hilda sat frozen in her seat, her heart heavy with emotion. Tears welled up in her eyes as the words of the hymn sank deep into her soul. How did I lose my friendship with the One who cared for me the most? How did I drift so far away that I no longer have time for Him? What happened to me? How did I lose touch?

She remembered the days when Jesus was her closest friend—the One she spoke to first thing in the morning and the last before she slept at night. But now, she could barely recall the last time she had truly prayed. Somewhere along the line, her priorities had shifted. She became consumed with work, social life, and the opinions of people. She invested her time in relationships that drained her rather than filled her. She set her mind on things that didn’t matter, and slowly, she pushed Jesus to the background.

Now, she felt empty. Her mental health was suffering. She was overwhelmed with anxiety, drowning in loneliness, and searching for comfort in people who had long abandoned her. The friends she had given so much of her time to had moved on, leaving her alone in her darkest moment. But then, as she sat there, she realized something—Jesus never left. Even when she was distant, He remained close. Even when she ignored Him, He still cared. Even when she was unfaithful, His love never wavered. Unlike human friendships that fade with time, Jesus’ friendship is eternal.

He is the friend who knows all our struggles. “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses.” (Hebrews 4:15). He loves unconditionally. “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13). He stays through every season. “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5). Jesus does not turn His back on us, no matter how far we wander. He patiently waits, always ready to welcome us back with open arms. His love is not based on our actions but on His unchanging nature.

Hilda wiped her tears and smiled—a genuine, heartfelt smile. She wasn’t alone after all. Jesus had never abandoned her, even when she strayed. There was still a place for her in the Father’s house. In that moment, she whispered a prayer, “Lord, forgive me for forgetting You. I want to be close to You again.” And just like that, peace flooded her heart. There is no friend like Jesus—no, not one.

Prayer
Thank You Lord for always being my Friend and thank You for the assurance that You will always be there every step of the way.

What type of Christian are you?

Sister Rose was stopped at the gate of heaven, and confusion filled her face. “What is going on here?” she asked. “My name is Sister Rose Agatha, the General Choir Director of the Association of Christian Choristers in my country. What do you mean I’m not qualified to enter?” The angel looked at her calmly. “I’m sorry, ma, but the gate has been shut against you. Many are called, but few are chosen” (Matthew 22:14). She felt offended. “Sir, with all due respect, you must be mistaking me for someone else. I served God all the years of my life on earth. Do you know how many choir groups I headed? How many crusades I was invited to? I was very popular.” “The Kingdom of God is not about popularity,” the angel replied. “What quality of service did you render to God? Was it for His glory or to please men? Remember, ‘For we must all stand before Christ to be judged… each of us will receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body’” (2 Corinthians 5:10). ...

Giving Thanks in Everything

Sometimes life feels like it’s falling apart — plans fail, losses come unexpectedly, and hope seems distant. Think of a time when things weren’t going the way you wanted; with all the emotions rushing through your mind, gratitude was probably the last thing you wanted to express. Yet, this is exactly where true thanksgiving begins — not when life is perfect, but when we trust that God is still good, even when things don’t seem that way. God’s Word encourages us to give thanks in all circumstances because He cares deeply for us, and His thoughts toward us are always good (Jeremiah 29:11). Even when things seem unclear, His plans are still for our peace and not for our destruction. Sometimes, we need to pause and look back at our lives to see the countless blessings we’ve overlooked. The psalmist reminds us to remember the deeds of the Lord and meditate on His works (Psalm 77:11–12). As we walk through tough seasons, it’s important to shift our focus away from negativity and toward the...

When obedience seems hard

Have you ever thought about what you would do if you were in Abraham’s position? God asked him to sacrifice his only son, Isaac — the son he had waited for all his life. Imagine the thoughts that must have run through his mind as he walked toward that mountain, carrying wood and fire but no explanation. Yet, Abraham obeyed. He trusted that even in this impossible command, God had a purpose. His faith reminds us that true obedience sometimes means surrendering what we value most. Sometimes, God asks us to let go of something dear — a dream, a relationship, or even a habit — and our first instinct is to resist. We grumble, argue, or try to reason it out because obedience can feel costly. But obedience, even when hard, is proof of our trust in God. Jesus Himself obeyed the Father even unto death (Philippians 2:8), and that obedience brought salvation to the whole world. The Bible makes it clear that disobedience leads to pain and loss. Saul lost his throne because he disobeyed God’s instr...
